Exact combination calculator

Turn “one in millions” into your actual plan.

Choose a Canadian game and the number of different lines you plan to coordinate. The math changes the quantity of combinations—not the likelihood of any individual line.

THE CALCULATION133,784,560 top-prize outcomes ÷ 4 distinct chosen lines = 1 in 33,446,140

The calculator assumes valid, different selections entered in one draw. Automatic selections are generated by the lottery system and could rarely duplicate another selection. Prize rules, purchase bundles and Gold Ball odds can change; confirm current details with your provincial operator.

Read the denominator

“One in” answers a very specific question.

The number is only meaningful when you know whether it describes one numeric line, one retail purchase or a group of distinct entries.

01 · LINE

The base unit

For a 6/49 game there are 13,983,816 possible six-number combinations. One line owns one of them.

02 · PURCHASE

Check what is included

A current Lotto Max purchase contains four selections. Other games may include one, two or three. Price alone does not tell you the line count.

03 · PORTFOLIO

Distinct entries matter

Eight different lines own eight combinations. Repeating the exact same line does not create a second way for the draw to match it.

COVERAGE AND PROBABILITY

A better map is not a different draw.

Coverage can spread your number exposure, avoid accidental duplicate lines and make a portfolio easier to audit. For the jackpot, an equal-size set of distinct coverage lines and distinct random lines owns the same number of combinations.

Important exceptions

Not every headline jackpot uses one fixed number.

LOTTO 6/49 GOLD BALL

The jackpot odds change

Every $3 play receives a computer-generated Gold Ball Draw Number. The chance of the Gold Ball jackpot depends on how many balls remain, so this page keeps it separate from the fixed 1 in 13,983,816 Classic 6/6 odds.

DAILY GRAND

Two independent matches

The grand prize requires five main numbers from 1–49 plus a Grand Number from 1–7. That produces 13,348,188 complete top-prize outcomes per line.

AUTOMATIC SELECTIONS

Planned and issued are different

Evidraw coordinates the lines you choose. Automatic selections still carry valid entries, but their overlap cannot be controlled before the lottery terminal creates them.

Responsible planning

Use the cost result as a ceiling—not a target.

There is no optimum purchase size that makes a lottery favourable. Set an entertainment budget first, choose a line count inside it and never increase spending to recover a loss.

Common questions

Canadian lottery odds, clearly answered.

What are the Lotto Max jackpot odds?

In the current 7/52 format, one exact seven-number selection has a 1 in 133,784,560 chance. A $6 play contains four selections, so its approximate jackpot chance is 1 in 33,446,140 when all four are distinct.

What are the Lotto 6/49 odds?

One Lotto 6/49 Classic selection has a 1 in 13,983,816 chance of matching all six main numbers. The separate Gold Ball Draw uses a computer-generated entry and its jackpot odds vary with the number of balls remaining.

Does buying more lines improve my odds?

More distinct eligible lines increase the portfolio’s absolute chance in direct proportion to the number purchased. Two different lines cover two combinations instead of one. The probability remains very small, and no line becomes more likely than another.

Does a coverage strategy improve jackpot odds?

Coverage can help keep your planned lines distinct and reduce repeated numbers or pairs. Compared with the same number of other distinct valid lines, it has the same jackpot chance. Its benefit is organization and diversification, not prediction.

Why does the calculator separate chosen lines from total ticket selections?

Some games bundle automatic selections with each purchase. Evidraw can coordinate the line you choose, but it cannot know the automatic selections before the ticket is issued. Showing both prevents a play from being mistaken for one line.

Are identical number formats always the same game?

No. Games can share a 6/49 or 7/52 main-number format while having different prices, automatic selections, prize tables, draw rules and regional availability. Always confirm the current operator rules.
